Palm Wax

Palm wax is produced by hydrogenating and fractionating palm oil until it forms a hard, high-melting, crystalline wax. Depending on the fractionation, it sets with either a smooth opaque finish or the distinctive feathered crystal pattern that candle makers prize and cannot reproduce with soy or paraffin.

Candle manufacturing is the largest market, and the reasons are practical. Palm wax has a higher melting point than soy, so candles hold their shape in warm climates and shipping containers. It burns cleanly without the petroleum soot of paraffin, holds fragrance oil well, and releases scent steadily rather than in an early burst. For pillar and container candles alike it is a straightforward substitute.

Beyond candles it appears across cosmetics and personal care as a structuring agent in lipsticks, balms, creams and depilatory waxes, where a plant-derived hard wax is increasingly specified over petroleum derivatives. Industrial users take it for polishes, coatings, packaging treatments and as a release agent.
